August 28, 2013: Re-Awakening Imagination

As children, we learned about ‘reality’ in our homes and schools, while spending great amounts of time in our imagination. Anything seemed possible, and we played with ideas, feelings, and potential futures with a sense of joy and excitement. Books and movies opened our minds to different versions of reality, and our imagined worlds were wonderful escapes from whatever the real world presented. We were encouraged to grow, to explore, to learn, and to expand our abilities and skills while using our imaginations.

Over the years, most of us ‘outgrew’ the realm of the imagination as we coped with the tasks of everyday life. School, homework, learning to drive, earning money, finding jobs, attending college, making meals, relating to spouses, having children – each new phase of life and each new skill and relationship that we developed had responsibilities that ate up our free time and demanded we focus on that reality. Unless we were in a job that required us to be creative, our imaginations were set aside and rarely utilized.

It is time to reconnect with your imagination! It is your portal to your expanded self, the greater and larger YOU that is filled with ideas, options and solutions for your life. If you are feeling stuck in a rut, then invite your imagination to dream up possibilities that can lift you out of that rut! It does not matter how old you are, simply explore who you want to be ‘when you grow up’, where you want to live, what you want your relationships to be like, and how you want to earn money while being true to yourself. Let your imagination be free to guide you, enliven you, and open your daily life to new opportunities!
